How Do I Decode a Mitsubishi VIN Number?

A unique VIN number has been assigned to every vehicle manufactured since 1981 for sale in the US, including Mitsubishis. It can be particularly awkward to decode a VIN number on your own, though, which is why we offer a free Mitsubishi VIN decoder, taking the hassle out of decoding a vehicle’s VIN.

There are a few checks you can perform yourself, such as checking the second letter of the VIN. It should be an A, M, or Z. The first three letters should be either KMH or KPH. However, there are exceptions, and we recommend you perform a vehicle history check if you have any doubts.

Mitsubishi: A Brief History

Mitsubishi began manufacturing vehicles in 1917, after spending decades as a shipping company. That year they created the Model-A. However, after several years of nothing, they hit major success in 1969 with the Gallant. It went on to become extremely popular in the US and abroad. In 1991 they were the recipient of a ‘Model of the Year’ award.

Now they are a major exponent of electric vehicles, and are at the head of the pack.
